Where's Waldo?

Where's Waldo
Waldo turns 25 years old this year and to celebrate, the publisher of the popular series is holding a nationwide scavenger hunt.  Two hundred and fifty store across the United States were selected to participate in the "hunt" and twenty of them are right here in Peterborough.

Here's how it works: there are Waldo figures hidden in twenty of the stores in Peterborough.  Find eight of the twenty (you get a card punched) and you win a gelato from The Magic Flute Children's Store.  Find sixteen of the twenty and you are entered to win a six book deluxe set of Waldo books plus other prizes.

Participating stores include: Annie's Bookshop, At Wit's End, Ava Marie's Chocolatier and Ice Cream, Bowerbird & Friends, Cent$ of Style, Gracie's Grain, Grove & Main Antiques, Hobb's Jewelers, Joseph's Coat, Maggie's Marketplace, Magic Flute, New England Everyday Goods, Paper & Roses, Peterborough Art Academy, Peterborough Camera, Peterborough Music, Peterborough Shoe, Sharon Arts Gallery, Steele's Stationers, and Toadstool Bookshop.

Too fun!

Teeing it up in and around Peterborough

As we hit the middle of the summer, golfing in Peterborough and the surrounding region heats up along with the temperatures.  Three different options nearby the Little River B&B are the 9 hole Monadnock Country Club, 36 hole Shattuck and the 36 hole Crotched Mountain.

Monadnock Country Club opened its greens in 1901 and is one of the oldest courses in the state.  Despite being just nine holes with short distances, it emphasizes accuracy over power and require a refined game.  In over 100 years of golf, the best recorded round of eighteen holes is just one under par.

The Shattuck has to be one of the most scenic and challenging courses you can find in all of New England.  Scenic because it is set near the base of Mt Monadnock framed by pine, oak and birch trees.  Challenging because it is a championship course with a par 71 and slope ratings between 141 and 153 depending on which tees you start from.  It is regularly ranked as one of the fifty most challenging courses in the United States because of its many hazards.

Crotched Mountain Country Club is another championship 36 hole course with beautiful scenic views of Crotched Mountain.  It's location in Francestown keeps the crowds away and the course is always in excellent condition.
