Summer Programs at Edward MacDowell Lake
One of our favorite ways to take a quick break is to pack up sandwiches and drinks and bring them up to Edward MacDowell Lake for a picnic. Even if the weather is not great, we can usually find some space in one of the picnic shelters or even just park our car with a pretty view of the lake. When we have more time, we love to take advantage of the hiking trails or dip our toes in the water at the beach. And since the lake is just a mile and a half away, we can fit in an adventure even when the timing might be a little tight. To add to the fun, on summer weekends in July and August, there will be a number of interpretive programs at the lake. Last summer, Paula participated in one of the EMS* Kayak Demo days and had a great time!
The programs are held on Saturday and/or Sunday from 2-4 PM with the July schedule as follows:
11 (Sat): Dam Tour
17 & 18 (Sat & Sun): EMS Kayak Demo and Water Safety
24 (Sat): Guided Nature Walk
25 (Sun): Arts & Crafts from Nature
31 (Sat): Edward MacDowell Lake 60th Birthday Celebration
The August programs include a dam tour, guided nature walk, live raptor presentation, program on rocks and minerals of the Northeast, and scavenger hunt. Details on the programs can be found at the Edward MacDowell Lake website.
BTW - In case you didn't know, EMS (a.k.a. Eastern Mountain Sports) has their Base Camp (headquarters) and retail store right here in Peterborough!
