As innkeepers, it is always interesting to find out how our guests decide to make Peterborough their destination. Last weekend, we hosted some guests who are interested in possibly moving to this general area. Why Peterborough? Well, it turns out, they had read an article in the February 2010 issue of Country Living magazine that highlighted Peterborough artist Dan Thibeault and his loft apartment at the renovated Union Mill building, just up the road from us here on Union Street. The magazine article had a nice paragraph on Peterborough... and a lot of great photos of the apartment. (A few years ago, I got a real-life peak into this apartment as part of an open house at the mill building and the photos in the magazine looked much as I remembered... including the cool concrete countertops in the kitchen and the magazine-ready spaces. Wow!)
Although the article was mostly about the artist's own space, the mill building houses more than apartments. It includes a yoga studio, a hair salon/art studio, and Nature's Green Grocer Market and Cafe, an organic market and full service foods store with cafe that features fresh salads, sandwiches and soups. During the warmer weather, the cafe has outdoor seating overlooking falls on the Nubanusit River. Beautiful...and since the mill is just a mile up the road from the B&B, it is an easy walk that takes you mostly along the river and past a sweet little park that encourages you to stop and enjoy the day.
